Hi all, I'm a researcher on sports in the Netherlands, and I had a question on the attendance (number of supporters) that are in the stadium when Genclerbirligi and Ankaragucu play against each other. If Genclerbirligi plays at home, could anyone make a guess at how many Genclerbirligi fans are in the stadium and how many Ankaragucu fans? And if Ankaragucu plays at home, how many Ankaragucu fans are there and how many Genclerbirligi fans? If anyone can help me with this, I would be very happy as it helps my research! Thanks!

since we have very ordinary teams from ankara nowadays, we cannot say that these derbies are being played in front of full tribunes.. but we have to accept that ankaragucu fans are more than us. if we give a percentage for you; if we are playing in; %50 gençler and %50 ankaragücü, if we are playing out; %30 gençler and %70 ankaragücü normally 10.000-12.000 fans are watching these matches but it may changes from season to season(according to succes, ticket price, weather conditions etc)... genclerbirligi fans are really silent if you need to compare with ankaragucu fans. we can show them in top 5 in turkey at supporting during the play.

Actually both teams are using the same stadium, and the number of the supporters of Ankaragücü is more than us (70 % to 30% of 10000 fans, roughly). When it is home game we get the majority of the seats and when it as an away game, vice versa. That does not mean that we get more supportes since we cannot ignore a group of football fans which have symphathy to both Ankara teams and watch the game in their usual seats.

I heard that Ankaragücü Fans will support us on Wednesday's game against Besiktas, we support each other when we play with istanbul teams, because we like ANKARA, we'll be glad to see a Champion from the capital city in the future CUORE ROSSONERi MERHABA FROM ANKARA:)

In fact it may also not reflect the realities as in some matches Ankaragücü club offer free tickets to some fans. BTW, on which subject are you making research? We would be glad if you would enlighten us more with the details of your discipline and studies. I am an anthropologist and making a research on football fan identities in Balkans. Hello Niels, The percentages given above are correct. Unfortunately crowd attendance figures are not given in Turkey and newspapers don't even try and guess. My guess is that an average (over the whole season) Gencler get about 3,000 per match but I'm sure someone will argue with me about that figure. Thanks for all your help. This is very usefull, although I do not think I can use the Ankaragucu-Genclerbirligi data then fro my research. I'm investigating what causes the home advantage in sports. The home advantage is the finding that a team generally wins more gaems when they play at home, than when they play an away game. Many possible ideas are there about the causes of this home advantage; it can be crowd support, it can be that a referee is biased for the home team, or it can be that players are more used to playing in their own stadium and therefore perform better. I decided to have a look at what happens when teams play against each other that share a stadium. When they play against each other, whether it is at home or away, they play in the same stadium. I thought that if a stadium is normally full, than there are still very few visiting supporters. So if there would be a home advantage for these same-stadium derbies, crowd support would be the main cause, while if there is no home advantage for same-stadium derbies than the stadium familiarity is most important. Unfortunately, for Ankaragucu-Genclerbirligi (but also for Club Brugge - Cercle Brugge in Belgium and for Bayern Muncih - 1860 Munich in Germany) one of the two teams draws a bit more supporters, so I can not make the comparison I wanted to make. What I do find however is that there is no home advantage when these teams play against each other. Normally both Ankaragucu and Genclerbirligi win more at home than away, but when they play against each other, it actually seems to be the case that the away team wins more often.
